Senior Risk Advisor

The Senior Risk Advisor position sits within our dynamic and growing risk advisory team. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work alongside a broad range of high-profile clients at both a senior (board) and operational (country) level assisting them to fulfil the appropriate level of Duty of Care for their staff, assets, programmes, reputation and risk appetite. This is done through delivery of ILS’ core products:
Risk Advisory: Working autonomously with clients to provide safety and security advice and support for their work around the globe. This includes
Developing and delivering strategic security risk management frameworks
Supporting country level capacity strengthening
Supporting staff travellers with contextual advice and formal risk assessments, delivering strategic security frameworks
Acting, where necessary, as an embedded advisor.
Crisis management: Supporting clients by developing and implementing crisis preparedness capacity, including developing bespoke processes and providing training and mentoring.
Training: Instructing on a range of ILS’ learning programmes including residential security courses (equivalent to HEAT training).
The position is based in the UK, near Brighton, but will require regular work in client offices in London, across the UK and overseas.
The ideal applicant will have experience as a security risk management professional and/or experience of implementing security measures in challenging/low resource environments, preferably with an international NGO. They will be confident to work alongside senior members of client staff and communicate aims and ideas to a range of audiences and be comfortable working within a small, dynamic team. They will be self-motivated and able to organize their own workload over multiple simultaneous projects. They must be willing to undertake work related travel, sometimes to high risk locations.
A minimum of three years of experience of working in insecure environments, as a security risk advisor or operations manager at either national or regional levels, ideally with an international NGO
Experience of operating in conflict or post-conflict environments
Familiarity with security risk management principles and practices
A good understanding of legal, moral and contractual duty of care requirements
Critical incident and crisis management experience
Excellent writing skills, with the ability to produce concise and succinct reports
Fluent in English
High levels of IT literacy.
A graduate, ideally post-graduate degree qualification in security risk management, humanitarian or development practice, international relations or a similar field
French, Spanish or Arabic language skills
Digital and information security knowledge
Experience of working in a commercial consultancy or account management role.
