The Parliamentary Security Department (PSD) is responsible for physical and personnel security across both Houses of Parliament and provides support to Members and staff when away from the Estate. Its purpose is to keep Parliament safe and open for business.
The Physical Security Adviser will play an integral part in ensuring that the Security Project Team realise their objectives for various projects which include acting as the customer for all projects with any security benefits being pursued by Parliament.
The role involves conducting physical security assessments and drawing up security operational requirements while supporting wider projects and programmes (including the Restoration and Renewal, and Northern Estate programmes). Acting as Parliament’s principal contact on physical security matters with CPNI and the Metropolitan Police; ensuring that advisory and governance bodies and wider users of the Parliamentary estate are consulted and communicated with on the progress of physical security changes.
- Experience of assessing physical security vulnerabilities and making proportionate recommendations to mitigate security risks; preparing physical security operational requirement documentation, including advisable enhancements for building construction and refurbishment projects; and producing Threat and Vulnerability Risk Assessments.
- Able to draft clear, concise and accurate documents to tight deadlines including security operational requirements; and ability to present information and arguments orally, clearly and accurately, including for non-specialist audiences.
- Contributing in a timely way to achieving project or programme benefits, working in a collaborative, positive and supportive way to overcome obstacles. An understanding of frameworks for delivering construction projects, such as the RIBA plan of work.
- Influencing and negotiating with a wide range of stakeholders in order to progress the implementation of advisable physical security measures.
